Imany or Nadia Mladjao was born near Marseille, where her family moved from Comoro islands. In her early youth she was active athlete with good results in high jumping. Later her good looks and grace was well appreciated in “Ford” model agency, which signed her. And with this contract Imany becomes very demanded model and is working for seven years in Milan, New York and Cape Town. A part of society was surprised when she suddenly decided to stop modeling to move back to France and focus on song writing.
First steps in music scope was taken by gigs in Paris bars and jazz clubs. Exotic beautiful girl with specific and low voice sang about love; she did it so gentle and sensual that soon enough from “another singing model” she became a rapidly rising soul music star. And really – in her songs where interwine jazz, blues, soul and ethnic music elements, poignantly and sensually revealing the soul of Black continent.
Indubitable proof for Imany talent was her debut album which was released in 2011 – “The Shape of a Broken Heart”. It reached Platinum status not only in France but also in Greece, and in Poland sales ratings were so phenomenal that reached even triple Platinum! Speaking about album title artist herself replied on a question with another question: “Haven’t You ever noticed that the shape of Africa reminds a broken heart”?
In 2004 Imany was invited to compose music for a film “French Woman” (Sous les jupes des filles). In popular comedy, which reveals stories of 11 Parisian women lives, are starring such famous actresses as Isabelle Adjani, Vanessa Paradi, Letitia Casta. The song used in this movie “Don’t Be So Shy” became phenomenally popular in Europe in Dj Filatov & Karas remix version, it is played almost in all radio stations and have been in 1st place in France, Germany, Austria and other countries. In “Spotify” this version of song is played at least 93 million times.
This August Imany released her second album “The Wrong kind Of War” which topped the charts in France, Switzerland and Poland. In this album without already mentioned “Don’t Be So Shy” 2 versions, you will find more than one notable compositions, including “Silver Lining (Clap Your Hands)” and “There Were Tears”, in which artist draws attention to the world around us and calling to protect it and make it better.
