The film takes us back across the decades. Romy and Alain’s Paris apartment, film sets, rare footage from rehearsals for Luchino Visconti’s stage production, premieres, film festivals, and intimate moments of private life — from this mosaic of memories emerges the portrait of two people whose destinies became forever intertwined.
From their first encounter to a passionate love affair, from separation to their unexpected reunion on the set of La Piscine, the film patiently reconstructs the chronicle of a relationship that seemed stronger than time itself.
He became the most important man in her life. She would remain forever his endless love, his Puppelé — his “little doll”.
Their romance lasted only a few years, yet the rest of their lives would be seen through the prism of that love. They parted, but never truly disappeared from one another’s lives.
Perhaps this is why their story became the myth of the “eternal fiancés” — les éternels fiancés.
