Peter Doherty - From the Baltic to the Bosphorus 2026 tour
PETER DOHERTY BRINGS HIS “FROM THE BALTIC TO THE BOSPHORUS” TOUR TO RIGA
One of the most distinctive and influential figures in British music of the past two decades, Peter Doherty is embarking on a new tour, “From the Baltic to the Bosphorus”, and will perform at Palladium Rīga on April 30. Closely associated with the renaissance of British rock music in the early 21st century, Doherty is known both as the frontman of “The Libertines” and “Babyshambles”, and as a compelling solo artist. His live performances are renowned for their unpredictability, emotional honesty, and deeply personal atmosphere. Each concert becomes a unique experience that audiences in Riga will soon be able to witness firsthand. Tickets are available through the “Biļešu Serviss” network.
Pete, or Peter Doherty, was born in 1979 in Hexham, northeast England. Due to his parents’ work, his childhood was marked by frequent moves, allowing him to experience a wide range of cultures and environments. As a teenager, he began playing guitar and writing poetry. Later, while studying English literature in London, he also worked as a gravedigger. This experience had a profound influence on his lyrical outlook. In 1997, together with Carl Barât, he founded “The Libertines”, a band that quickly became one of the defining British rock acts of its generation.
The band’s debut album “Up the Bracket”, followed by subsequent releases produced by Mick Jones of “The Clash”, established “The Libertines” as Britain’s answer to the so-called garage rock revival. Alongside this success, Doherty formed “Babyshambles”, whose album “Down in Albion” is widely regarded as one of the most significant British rock records of the 21st century. The album is also notable for its artwork created by Doherty himself.
In addition to music, Peter Doherty is active across several artistic disciplines. He creates album artwork, paints, and has published the book “Books of Albion: The Collected Writings of Peter Doherty”, which brings together his poetry, drawings, and photographs. For many years, his life and personality were under intense scrutiny from the British press. Over the past decade, however, he has found greater balance and calm, something that is clearly reflected in his more recent work.
Released last year, his fifth solo album “Felt Better Alive” received widespread critical acclaim and reached No. 7 on the UK Albums Chart, becoming the highest-charting solo release of his career. The album presents Doherty as a mature songwriter and poetic realist, blending acoustic minimalism with rich arrangements and orchestral scope. Nearly twenty musicians contributed to the recording, creating a layered and emotionally resonant sound.
At the Riga concert, audiences will hear songs from “Felt Better Alive” alongside material spanning different phases of Doherty’s career. It is a rare opportunity to experience an artist whose life and music embody the romance, vulnerability, and freedom of rock ’n’ roll, delivered this time in a calmer but no less powerful form.
