An intoxicating concentration of emotion, a great and fearless love story!
A sublime portrayal of musician Leonard Bernstein's "life in art", set against a backdrop of great music and unbridled passion.
Everyone knows that art demands sacrifices from the artist, but no one talks about the sacrifices artists demand from their loved ones.
Felicia Montealegre not only had to give up her career, she also had to put up with the frivolous escapades of her genius husband.
For Bernstein, boundless freedom and the constant thrill of falling in love were vital: "If nothing sings in you, you can't compose music".
The genius drew creative energy from the hot flames of passion for life, and this uncontrollable, spontaneous fervour sometimes created very serious problems.
The dense swarm of scandalous speculation and rumour surrounding Bernstein crashed down on the impregnable fortress of Montealegre, behind which the tireless and unrestrained Lenny hid his vices.
Intoxicated by unbridled attraction, he didn't realise when he had crossed the line. And then, one day, it was time to pay the piper.
That's for later. And now he is a young, ambitious musician, Leonard Bernstein, who has just received an unexpected phone call from Carnegie Hall.
Pushing aside passers-by and waving the folds of his dressing gown, he is on his way to a great, bright future, to world fame and universal recognition as the American genius of the twentieth century.
This is a beautiful film, an amazing gem! Great story, marvelous acting, beautiful music and a great aesthetic production design. BRAVO MAESTRO!!!
Bradley Cooper’s ‘Maestro’ is an absolute marvel! Is a Beautiful Tribute to Leonard Bernstein.
Film is made with such reverence and love for the man that after seeing the picture, there will be no doubt in your mind that this is not just a worthy tribute to one of the greatest figures in the American musical canon, but also one of the finest films of the year.
From its earliest moments, you can tell that Cooper and Co. have prepared something special. The dialogue is rhythmic and fast, zipping and humming along like a classic screwball, and the black-and-white lensing, courtesy of ace cinematographer Matty Libatique, recalls Hollywood’s Golden Age.
